Sister Ruthie McCray was born to the late Mrs. Ammie Jean Terrell on March 17th, 1952, in Yazoo City Mississippi. In 1962 the family moved to Vallejo CA. Ruthie joined in fellowship with St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Christ under the tutelage of the late Pastor J. L. Johnson.
Sister Ruthie McCray matriculated through Vallejo Unified School District and graduated from Vallejo Senior High school. Ruthie attended Cal State Hayward where she received her BA degree in Human Development. In her early years she worked for Bank of America in San Francisco, CA. Later in life she worked in the accounting department at JBR Inc. until her retirement in 2012.
Sister Ruthie McCray excepted Christ and was baptized in 1967; at St. John MBC, this is where she meet a” young” Mr. Dean McCray who would become the love of her life and husband in 1970. Through this union they were blessed with two beautiful daughters Micheline Monique McCray and Nykia Tavasha McCray. Dean and Ruthie’s blissful marriage lasted 52 years until Sister McCray transitioned to be with our heavenly father.
Sister Ruthie loved serving God reading His word and was a faithful servant of the Lord. Sister Mccray united with Gods Throne Baptist Church in the city of Stockton where she participated in various ministries, which included serving on the Usher Board, singing in the women’s choir and she was a devoted participant in our weekly bible study.
God exalted Sister McCray with tremendous blessing that she utilized to bless others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a good friend. To know her was to absolutely love her. Her temperament was calm, with a peaceful spirit. Ruthie was patient, compassionate, anointed with a servants’ heart and a giving personality. Everyone that met her absolutely enjoyed her. Some of her favorite pastimes included spending time with her family, reading, walking and bike riding.
Sister McCray went home to glory on April 4, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Her passing has left a void that will never be filled. However, the precious memories we have will sustain us until we see her again.
Sister Ruthie Lee McCray was preceded in death by her mother Ammie Jean Terrell, Jimmie Lee Terrell (brother), Roy Doss (brother), Mary Anne Terrell (sister), James Terrell (brother), and Herbert Doss (brother).
Sister Ruthie is survived by the love of her life, her devoted husband Dean McCray, her daughters Micheline Monique McCray (Tremaine Wheaton), Nykia Tavasha McCray (Cory Brown), grandchildren Marcellous Warren, Nydea Deans, Aniah Wheaton and great grandchildren Mi’layah Warren and Nymyah Tavasha Nichole Evans. Her siblings Jerome Doss (Lenora Doss), Geneive Doss, Charles Doss and a host of nieces and nephews.
