Rose Evanson of Stockton CA passed away on March 4, 2024. She was 100 years old. She was born June 8, 1923 to Selso and Dolores (Esparza) Ruiz in Mexico.

She grew up in Stockton, graduating from Stockton High School in 1941. After high school she went on to study court reporting and worked as a secretary. During WW2 she worked at the USO a couple weekends a month serving coffee & donuts and dancing with the GI’s who were stationed at Stockton Field. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gordon Evanson. They were married in 1943 and were inseparable until his passing in 2009.

She worked for M. Corren & Sons for several years beginning in the late 1940’s before going to work at Klein Bros. in the mid-1950’s. She spent the remainder of her career working for Klein Bros., first as a secretary then as a dried bean commodities trader, buying & selling dried beans worldwide. She was the second woman in the nation to become a dried bean commodities trader as this was a profession that was considered a “man’s profession”. She was a true pioneer for women in the workplace.

She and Gordon loved to travel and once she retired, they were never home! They loved cruising and would cruise to Mexico, Alaska, Panama and the Caribbean. They traveled to Hawaii many times and often took road trips during the summer and would take some of their grandkids along. Mom also became involved with Bible Study Fellowship as a student and teacher for 15 years.

Rose is survived by her daughters Sharon Lundquist, Beverly Rugani and Elena Ross. She had 5 grandchildren, Cynthia Glennon (Paul), Kimberli Helwig (Jason), Dina Rugani, Jennifer Rugani (Frank Huckabone) and Michael Riley (Veronica). She had 8 great grandchildren, Jacqueline Thornton (Victor), Chandler Myers, Christian Helwig (Katey), Joshua Helwig (Jamie), Myles Riley, Keith Riley, Annie Huckabone and Ryan Huckabone. She had 2 great-great grandchildren, Vivian Basore and Atlas Thornton and 2 great-great grandchildren due in March and June.

Private services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Rose Chapel.
