Obituary for Johnny Ray McDougall Sr.

Johnny Ray McDougall Sr. passed away Wednesday 7/29/2020 from complications of COVID 19. Johnny was born in Yuma, AZ, the youngest child of Bertha and Alexander McDougall. He was voted most photogenic child and his picture appeared in the local paper, The Yuma Sun, often. When Johnny was five, the family moved to San Jose, CA where he lived most of his life. Johnny was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for sport fishing, abalone diving, and mountaineering. He was most at home rappelling down a cliff to fish at his favorite secluded beach near Santa Cruz, CA, fishing on his boat, or backpacking in the Yosemite wilderness. Johnny was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Carpenters Union Local 405 in San Jose, CA. Johnny’s final three years were spent residing in a nursing home in Stockton, CA due to complications from a stroke. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Bertha McDougall (Robbins), his father Alexander McDougall of Edinburgh, Scotland, brother Carl Newby, sister Beverly Lynn McDougall Weal (Edwin), sister Vivian Newby Osborn and nephew Jeff Newby (Lisa). He is survived by his son Johnny Ray McDougall, Jr (Doreen), grandchildren Johnny McDougall III (Sarah), Roman DePonte (Mercedes), Camry McDougall (Dustin VanZant), great-grandchildren Royce Kottke, Zyling Kottke, Davina McDougall, Colton DePonte, Leila DePonte, Killian DePonte, and Aria Van Zant. Nieces and nephews Rochelle Lynn Osborn Mohamed (Mark), Robyn Lee Osborn-Walker (Guerry M Duncan), Deborah Renee Eggers Moss (Robert), Cheryl Lynn Eggers Marshall (Michael), Craig R Newby (Chrystal), Kathryn Newby Balian (Mike), and brother in law Robert Osborn. Great nieces and nephews Megan Smith (Brad), Kristen Mohamed, Lauren Mohamed, Gabriel Alvarez, Kaiden Smith, Wyatt Smith, Apollo Smith, Rachel Lynn Walker, Camille Leith Walker, Elizabeth Faith Walker, Kristina Chambers (Christopher), Noah Chambers (Sarah), Erin Moss, Ian Moss, Kaity French (Brian), Curtis Day Jr, Andrew Day, Madison Kusanovich, Scarlett Chambers, Harper French, and Hudson French. Johnny’s ashes will be scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you hold your loved ones extra close, take time to heal old wounds, take Covid-19 very seriously and please wear your masks.
