Eduardo Jayme Sumaquial, 86 years of age, of Stockton, California, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023. Ed was born on May 22, 1937 to Federico Sumaquial and Paz Jayme in Bacolod City, Philippines. His adopted parents were Alipio and Balbinita Supremo. His siblings are Elma Saturnino and Edgardo Supremo(deceased).

After Ed graduated from Negros Occidental High School, he went on to study medicine at the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Thomas, College of Medicine and Surgery, in Manila, Philippines. After graduating from medical school, he moved on to his surgical residency at the University of Santos Tomas Hospital and married Marietta Abellera. After completing his surgery training, he practiced as a surgeon in Sogod, Leyte, Philippines. He later went into private practice in Baguio City, Philippines. He became a professor in Saint Louis University Medical School in Baguio City. Then, he continued his teaching career as a professor and postdoctoral research associate in Renal Physiology at the University of Leuven, Belgium.

The family moved to the United States in 1977. He worked at the Reserve Life Insurance as a sales agent in Stockton, California..

Eduardo and his wife both decided to return to the medical field in 1979. They started their pediatrics residency training in Staten Island, NY. He completed a Fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. After completing his residency training, he and his family returned to Stockton, California and started a private practice in pediatrics. Eventually, he moved his private practice to Manteca, California until he retired in 2014. He was a member of the San Joaquin County Medical Society

In between work, he also enjoyed his time with his dear friends from the Filipino Medical Allied Professionals(FILMAPs). His hobbies were playing slot machines, bowling, ping pong, singing and dancing. Ed’s family is very precious to him. He had a happy disposition.

He is survived by his wife (Marietta) of 54 years, his children (Michael Rey, Jose Val, Al Gerard and Edith Marie), his grandchildren (Luke, Riley, Cameron, Rebecca, Keira, Jake, Claire and Elise), cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Colonial Rose on November 20 -21, 2023.
